Monster Job Ads FAQs

If you have any questions about creating and managing your job ads, you’ve come to the right place. We have everything you need to know about posting, editing, renewing – and even writing your job ads. Choose a category below to find all the answers, and make sure you make the most of every job ad you create.

Creating a Job Ad

The skills are aggregated from the keywords in your job description and standardised to offer candidates a quick way to determine their fit for your role. Skills in common are also highlighted for signed-in users, allowing them to easily identify jobs that match their skillset.

This feature aims to help candidates pinpoint more right-fit roles while delivering more relevant applies to employers.

For best results, Monster recommends including relevant keywords that describe desired skills within your job description text.

Monster makes posting a job ad simple! You can begin posting a new Job Ad by clicking on Post A Job next to the Monster homepage logo. As you walk through the job ad process, red asterisks will indicate required fields. Just know that Monster urges all employers to complete as many fields as possible when posting their job ads for improved search rankings. If you have a job that you’d like to post in multiple locations, you will need to post a new job for each location. This is easy to do by saving your job in the Hiring Library: in the first step of the job posting flow, simply tick Save Job to Hiring Library at the bottom of the page. This allows you to save your job ad details and use them again when posting a similar job.

In the past, Monster customers had the option to post one job to multiple locations (each location using additional units of inventory), but in order to drive better results to candidates and increase job ad performance for employers, we have removed this feature.

Of course! When you are in the process of creating a job ad you can save your progress and continue at another time by clicking Save for Later at the bottom of the page. The draft will be saved to your My Jobs page. 

No! At the moment it is not possible to add a video in the job description. If you have purchased a Branded Job Template you can add 1-3 company videos to be displayed on all your ads.  

Yes, you can. Although we recommend including a company name for best results, you have the option to keep the company name confidential. Just check the box Keep company name confidential in the Company Information section in the posting tool. 

Monster provides you the choice between two application methods: 

  1. Standard Apply is the recommended Monster apply method as it allows candidates to quickly apply with their Monster account. Applications will be sent to the email address you fill in and will be saved in your Monster account to review later. 
  1. If you’re using an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) you can insert your redirect URL link.

We’re focused on improving our candidate and employer experience and delivering better results on Monster. With the updates we’re making to the site, these features were no longer necessary. This, of course, streamlines the posting process for you as well.

We recommend applications via email (Standard Apply). Why?

  • You will avoid SPAM because your email address will not appear in the ad text. The candidate will have to register with Monster to apply, which prevents bots.
  • You can easily manage applications through your Monster account.
  • Applications made externally cannot be found in your Monster account.
  • Monster can only provide statistics on apply starts (clicks on the apply button), not completed applications.
  • Forwarding to external sites might discourage some job seekers (multiple pages, too many details to fill out).

This is a quick application via the Monster mobile app. Since the application process should be as easy and as quick as possible, applicants have the following mandatory fields when registering in the app:

  • Name
  • E-mail address
  • Highest degree
  • Most recent employment

Since many applicants have not saved their CV on their smartphones, and a long registration process in the app is not warranted, these short profiles are there so that applicants can still get in touch with employers.

Also, as you now have the contact details of the applicants basic profiles, you can reach out and request they send you all of the documents and complete the application process.

Candidates search on Monster for job titles, skills, or keywords within a particular location. If your job ad is considered relevant to the search, it will be presented in the list of results. A lot of factors are considered when the system ranks job ads. Read our Best Practicesarticle to learn how to optimize your job ad and improve your position in search results. 

If you are asked to pay again, or use additional pre-paid job ads, it often means you have either added additional products or you have selected to renew the job ad. If you only want to update the job details in the active job ad, go to the second page of the posting tool and remove any additional products or renewal.

You may find that jobs you posted elsewhere, appear on additional platforms, such as Monster linking visitors back to the original source you posted on. These ads do incur a drop in ranking against paid Monster services in our search engine, but are none the less, very effective in promoting more traffic, unique visits, additional applications and of course, it’s Free!

Both are great and suited for different recruitment scenarios. Active job is suitable for quick-fill positions, high-turnover roles or if there is frequent recruitment activity in your company. Standard job is best suited when you are recruiting for 1 role and prefer one-time payment or if you know you’ll need to recruit anytime within the next 12 months.

Subscription Job

  • Reoccurring Monthly payment
  • As many jobs as needed, 1 active at a time of the paid subscription period

You can summarize the job and explain why this is an exciting opportunity to consider, outline the responsibilities of the job, describe the qualifications of the ideal candidate and specify the skills required. You can also describe your company to give candidates a glimpse into your company culture and explain why people might love working there

How do I write a mobile-friendly job description? 

More than half of job applies on Monster come from a mobile device. Make sure to follow these tips to ensure these users can review and apply to your jobs with ease. Read the full article here 

  1. The first paragraph is the most important: grab the candidate’s attention and engage them to read further.  
  2. Include section headers for: qualifications, requirements, skills & benefits. 
  3. Use a clear, easy to scan format: bullet points are a great way to do this. 
  4. Try to keep to the same style across your job ads to build candidate recognition. 
  5. After your job is online browse for it on your mobile phone and amend if needed. 

 Also, choose the best application method for your jobs with regards to the candidate’s mobile experience.

You might be surprised to learn that particular words and phrases could marginalize and alienate a large portion of your candidate pool. There’s a lot on the line when it comes to building your workforce. As the gatekeepers of who is considered for employment, it’s up to recruiters to promote a fair, inclusive, and unbiased hiring process from the start.

Once you research the position, meet with the hiring manager and create an action plan to fill this position, you want to make sure your job ad is going to get the job done. Here’s a list of what you should incorporate into every job ad you post: 

  • Job TitleKeep it simple and use an industry standard job title that candidates would search for. 
  • Job Location Be clear about the job location. 
  • Company NameCandidates appreciate transparency and are more likely to apply if they can research the company. 
  • Industry and Job Type Be clear about the industry and job type for each position so candidates will know exactly what you are looking for. 
  • Salary Range Be upfront and you will attract candidates with matching salary expectations. 
  • Employer Branding Including your company logo in your job ad will help it stand out in search results and make it more memorable to candidates. 
  • Quality Job Description Be clear and concise, sell the position and go beyond bulleted lists.

There’s no need to do this. When a candidate runs a search for a specific job title, it surfaces exact matches as well as similar and related job titles – making the extra effort of posting duplicates unnecessary. Even if you’re hiring more than one person for that particular role, refrain from posting duplicate job ads as it could have a negative impact on your performance.

If you choose to flood the system with various job ads for the same role, they may get flagged as fraudulent by candidates or rank lower in search results due to oversaturation. Monster strives to maintain the integrity and relevance of our services to job candidates and would ask employers to refrain from these kinds of practices.

This is not necessary if you select the correct location settings for your job ad. Follow Monster’s Job Posting Best Practices and include the exact physical location of the job ad, unless it’s a remote opportunity:

Choose a location if you will require the employee to enter the office or job site at any point – everyday or occasionally. This will surface your job ad if it matches the radius set by the seeker.

Choose no fixed location if the job is fully remote. This will surface your job ad if it’s relevant to the seeker’s search criteria.

Your job ad will be returned to the appropriate candidates based on their search entries and radius of their choosing. There is no way to successfully manipulate this without repercussions.

Click on My Jobs in the menu to gain insight and take control over your job postings. There are several actions you can perform on your jobs, depending on the status and what you’d like to do. 

Edit – make changes to your job, any changes made will take approximately 2 hours to go live. Making edits are free of charge unless you add additional regions, categories, or enhancements on the second page. 

Renew – post your job again, this will use an additional credit. If your active job has auto-refresh, it automatically appears as newly posted on the date of the refresh cycle. Performance data will stay tied to the job regardless of how many times it was renewed. 

Copy – copy your job to post a new version of it, this option allows you to reset the performance and get brand new statistics. 

Expire – if you have found the ideal candidate and no longer need applications, expire the role. This option is preferred to setting a custom expiry date. 

Archive – if you no longer have use for the job, archive it. These jobs will be grouped into the same view and you won’t confuse them with recently expired roles. 

Alongside the job actions, you can always see performance data. Views and applies will indicate how your job is performing.

Yes, you can – and it’s very easy. After you’ve signed into your Monster Account, click on My Jobs at the top of the page and find the job ad you want to expire. Click on the Actions menu next to the job ad and choose Expire.

Yes, you can – and it’s very easy. After you’ve signed into your Monster Account, click on My Jobs at the top of the page and find the job ad you want to edit. Click on the Edit button under to the job title, this will take you back to the posting flow, where you can update the information of the job ad.

Yes, you can – and it’s very easy. After you’ve signed into your Monster Account, click on My Jobs at the top of the page. Choose Expired Jobs in the menu on the left-hand side and find the job ad you want to repost. Click on the Renew button under to the job title, and the job ad will be visible on Monster within 2 hours.

You can check your job ad performance on your Monster account. After you’ve signed into your Monster Account, click on My Jobs at the top of the page. Next to each job ad you can see Views and Applies. 

Views are a combination of desktop and mobile views by candidates and Applies track the application activity – if you use Standard Apply you can retrieve the applications in your account, and if you use off-site ATS the number indicates apply starts. 

When you sign into your Monster Account you can access your applicants from the two menu options: 

My JobsOn this page you can see all your job ads and their performance. If you have a hyperlinked number under Applies you can click on the number, and you will be taken to the applicant folder.  

My CandidatesOn this page you will see all candidates from all jobs, and any saved CVs found in the CV database. To view all applications for a specific job ad you can select the job folder in the left-hand menu.
